Every last day of school I pulled out a sign.

My boys would groan. Roll their eyes. Do that thing where they half-smile because they're embarrassed but they kind of love it.

I made them hold it anyway.

Those photos are some of my favorites. My oldest is now in college and I still have every single one — the gap-toothed kindergarten grin, the too-cool-for-this middle school smirk, the genuine smile he finally gave me senior year when he thought I wasn't looking.

Last day of school is one of those moments that feels ordinary until it isn't anymore. One day you're chasing a kindergartner out the door and the next you're watching them walk across a stage.

Take the photo. Even if they roll their eyes. Especially if they roll their eyes.

Print it on cardstock, cut it out, and hand it to your kid. Add a popsicle stick if you want to get fancy. The whole thing takes five minutes and the photo lasts forever.

Want to make the last day of school even more special?

If you want to send your child's teacher off in a way they'll actually remember — not another gift card, not another mug — my teacher postcard and gift collections are made for exactly this moment.

Teachers show up every single day for kids who aren't theirs. The least we can do is send them off with something that actually means something.

Happy last day of school. Take the photo.

P.S. If your kids are anything like mine, they will act annoyed and secretly love it. Document everything.
